-0.7 to -1.0 EV underexposed sounds very much like what I'd expect if I took a spot reading directly from Caucasian skin, like the palm of my hand. That's my emergency gray card ... Take a reading off my hand and add one stop ... and I've been using it for 40 years before buying a DSLR. ;-)
