More mpx in a sensor the same size as the current one might lead to more
noise, or so I've come to understand. However, considering the state of
digital photography these days, that's a problem that should, hopefully, be
overcome by now. What factors will affect the amount of noise generated by
smaller pixels, especially at higher ISO ratings?
I believe it's a simple question of how much light hits each sensor
element - this obviously depends on the size of the surface area.
Strictly speaking, there is not more noise with smaller pixels, but a
worse signal-to-noise ratio because the signal is weaker (if all other
factors are unchanged.)
