If you have XP sp2 installed the firewall is already up and running. If you combine this with Windows automatic updates (free), microsoft windows defender (free) antispyware and any antivirus client (norton, mcafee or others) you should be fine. Any other additional "security tools" only create additional overhead resulting in a slow PC.
