This sounds like some liquid/nose grease/etc. got into the switch
assembly attached to the dial. A thorough cleaning of the switch
assembly, which would probably require camera disassembly, would most
likely clear it up.
Is the camera under warranty still? Perhaps Pentax service can clear it up.
