The 468MGRC3 is rated for up to 35lb loads, so should be good for that weight. Better have a fairly hefty tripod to manage a 35lb load!!! The RC2 model I handled is rated at a bit lighter weight probably due to the QR mounting: 22 lbs.

How well it absorbs/minimizes vibration I couldn't say. I don't use lenses that large and heavy.

With the F100-300/4.5-5.6 and a 2x-S teleconverter (a fairly light combination for 600mm and the longest I've used in forever) on a Kirk BH-1 ballhead and my Manfrotto 3444D legs (hung with the camera bag for 6lbs additional weight), I found the 2 second mirror pre-fire important for stability in the 1/8 to 1/100 second exposure range. There was a bit of mirror jitter evident in that range of shutter speeds when compared with and without. But that lens combo doesn't have a lens-mounted tripod support, everything is hanging on the camera's tripod mount.

Godfrey. Based on your glance, can you say anything on how the head will perform using a pretty long and rather heavy combo? (300/2,8 plus AF TC) Did it look like a thing that will absorb/minimise critical vibrations?

Or does somebody else have any idea about this?

I believe 468MGRC2 and 468MGRC3 is basically the same head, except for the
connection system.

While I was looking at tripod legs today, I also glanced a look at
the heads they had and played with the 468MGRC2. Not exactly what
you're looking at, but the same basic head.

It's a decent ball head. I like the friction adjustment and quick
latch/unlock on the ball. It's not as smooth in operation as the
Acratech or Kirk heads, but it feels serviceable and reasonably precise.

So I'm debating. Shall I enable myself with a Bogen 393/ Manfrotto 3421
Gimball mount head?
What I've found of reviews on it is very promising. But, there's
one but. It
is using the RC3 connection system. The head I've got now 486RC2 is
using
the RC2 connection system. So when going from the gimball to my all
purpose
head I will have to switch connection system. Not very practical.
So buying
the gimball will probably (at some point) lead to buying another
head using
the same connection system.
The only head that's using RC3 is 468MGRC3.

It's pricey, but it looks pretty good. But I would like to know if
somebody
has got something qualified to say about this head.

The sidekick is off course an alternative. But to use that, I need
a head
using the Acra system first. And at this point I can't make that
kind of
investment.
Major enablement's tends to disable the bank account ;-)
