Shel,
Don't feel bad that some people don't understand you. I recall a
series of haystacks that was done by Monet. Many people I know just
don't understand what my draw is to this particular series, and I
can't quite explain it myself. This does not detract from the work
at all. Also, it helps a bit that the haystacks series is hanging in
the Art Institute of Chicago.

Hi,
I'm starting some daily walks, and every now and then I'll be
walking past
these mailboxes. The plan is to photograph them a little
differently each
time - different lenses, perspectives, framing, etc. Grab a few
shots,
come home, examine them, and shoot some more later on.
I don't know what it is about these boxes - can't really put my
finger on
it - but ever since I picked up my cameras again about five years
ago, this
scene has held my interest. There's a fence post further down the
road
that pushes my buttons as well. Over the years there have been
some pretty
innocuous scenes that have caught and held my interest. There's a
bench
down by the waterfront in Albany that has the same effect on me.

The rendering on the mailbox is excellent, nice tones and color; the
foliage and backdrop is a little dark in my opinion. I'm not sure
that the full frame view does it best. I'd play with some more square
croppings.
What's interesting is that you have been fascinated by this scene. I
like it too, but I'm not sure what motivates the interest.
