The "Disk Utility" application built into OSX has an "erase deleted space" option (with quite a few overwrite options) that should do the trick. If you need to erase the ENTIRE harddrive you should be able to boot from one of the OSX install CDs (or DVD) and run the Disk Utility app from there - delete the partition and THEN do the scrubbing.
