Shooting directly into the sun with every SMC lens I've ever used has never been an issue, nor have i experienced such flare as in "awfulflare.jpg" with primes in similar situations. Maybe the 16-45 needs a better hood or I've just encountered its nemesis. In any case, it's just an example of a situation in which the flare was unexpected and totally unacceptable. It's unimportant to me if it's a tendency for all zooms to do that - it's not a "feature" I care for ;-))

It appears to be totally free of any obvious flare. I'm not wild about the picture, due to the exaggeration of the woman's shape and the rim light on her hair, but it serves to illustrate the flare resistance of the lens: > http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4570412&size=lg > Paul -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
