I have one of the latter that I just (belatedly) sent to Pentax to have them 
bless (= fix)!
I cross my fingers!
I bought it in that condition, and have been dragging my feet (other things to 
do that have a higher priority...)
If it tests okay after it comes back, I can see it becoming one of my favorite 
lenses.

Glad you mentioned it. No telling how long it would have been!  <g>
