True enough. Just like the rules for getting elected to a position of
political power don't say one must be honest. :-) Since there's no judge
it's open to all.

I don't think a level playing field ineeded to tell the truth. If one walks
into a photo gallery or art exhibit they'll see all different sizes,
matting, framing styles juxtaposed here, there and everywhere. Of course I
don't think one has to see a good and bad photo side-by-side to tell the
difference. That's partially my point, judge ones work before it's
submitted.

I get where you're coming from though.

While I recognize that one can and certainly should learn from looking at
others photographs and comparing their work to others, I never have viewed
the PUG's main intent to be an educational one. I thought it was to display
pretty pictures. :-)

I still think that negative feedback will be next to nil on those
photographs that are, in your words "crap". Witness the comment I made
about the PUG in general that started this discussion, and the subsequent
reaction.

I actually like John Forbe's idea of having a panel of judges that votes on
which submissions are included. Sure it has the possibility of appearing
arbitrary, but no less so than submitting a photo to a contest or periodical
for publication.

I'm burnt out on the subject (I think). :-)
