Unfortunately nothing seems to stop 100% of the crap. Pop-ups, 
animation, music, ads, etc. no matter what you do some of them get by 
however there are a couple of easy things to do.

Just disabling MacroMedia (now Adobe) Flash will stop about 90% of the 
animated web crap. As for sound I just normally keep it turned down and 
only turn it up when I specifically want to hear something.
