Get it really dry. Take off and open as much of the case as possible. Sit it out in the sun for a few day. - bring it in at dusk. Or: Point a hair drier at it for a long time - 8 hours. A competent handy person who likes small fiddley stuff can likely fix the battery compartment damage.
