Sorry Bob, I was assuming Pentax. ;-)
Don't know much about Leicas but a light leak can cause wierd things,
different effects depending on light direction, etc.
Also if the camera has a horizontal run shutter the "trailing" shutter
curtain may be hesitating at the start of it's run.
Pretty common on Pentax Spotmatics and some K Series cameras.
I also have a FED (Leica clone) that does this after not being
used for a while.
