Bruce,

To me, there are two main reasons for using Wings Platinum 2.

1. Cost.
It's freeware.

2. An editing environment I really like.
At least compared to Proshow Gold and Adobe Premiere.

The only fault with the freeware version is of course that I cannot
create a presentation suitable for sharing on the Internet, as this
little excercise has duly demonstrated. I will not do it again, I can
tell you that. :-(
I've removed the exe file from the website now.

Wings can output MPEG streams and general-purpose DVDs if one buys
additional modules, but not in the freeware version.

Btw, I downloaded the Adobe Premiere tryout, but I couldn't make it
produce any hi-res presentations. Maybe I missed the finer points with
the software, but the only thing I could make it produce was standard
video resolution, which looked awful. I think it was 320x180 pixels or
something like that.

Wings suits my main purpose very nicely; which is to run slide shows
off a projector from my own laptop.

Just as a ballpark figure... -what file size would you typically end
up with for a 4 minutes MPEG presentation in 1024x768 pixels
resolution with your package?

Jostein

I am somewhat surprised that you didn't just use one of the video
editing packages (Ulead, Adobe) to create a final mpg that can be
played safely without taxing the heck out of your software. You have
extremely fine control with the apps to create whatever you want. I
do DVD slideshows all the time out of still pictures and transitions
and music that are timed exactly frame by frame to the music as I
desire. The final result is either a burned DVD or mpg that can be
played on almost any kind of system.

Care to eloborate why this particular software was chosen?
