Bob, when I sign up for a workshop, most times I look for where specific
outdoor pros are holding them.

I've taken week long workshops with Lepp, Shaw & Rod Planck.

They all are great outdoor pros IMHO.

Geo. Lepp (http://www.leppphoto.com/) is unique in this group in that he
has a digital classroom that he runs, sometimes in conjunction with a field
workshop. Doesn't do as many field workshops as the other two. Geo's work is
probably more varied than the other two.

John Shaw is a great personality, great nature/outdoor photog & a good
teacher who mainly does tours for Jos Van Os (http://www.photosafaris.com/).
With Van OS the tour price is all inclusive, even to including some meals.
Probably the most expensive of the three. These are less of a workshop and
more of a tour ie mostly field work, some instruction, no critique.

Rod Planck http://rodplanck.com/index.html is a Michigan nature photog who
operates mainly out of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan but also does
workshops in Utah & South Dakota. Rod is a consummate nature photographer
who knows & understands his subjects and takes great pains to know the photo
options available at a given location. I my opinion he is the best teacher
of the three. I consider Rod my mentor. Rod does mostly workshops that
include some class room instruction, field work and critiques. If I could
only attend one workshop, it would be Rod's. Rod does spring & fall
workshops/tours in the U.P. almost every year. Probably the least expensive
of the three. You pick up food & accommodation costs yourself.

HTH, If I can answer anything further just ask.
