Sounds very much like the display I used for three years with the  
Apple iMac G4 20", another superb display. Apple sources the hardware  
from Philips, I believe. The 20" display's proportions are 16:10,  
IIRC. They sell the same display hardware in a standalone unit, the  
Cinema Display 20", for $799 list.

Apple's displays are generally top of the line in build quality and  
have a premium quality edge as well as the Apple branding, they get a  
bit more for them.  I've been able to source CD20" displays for as  
low as $620 on discount for my contract client, however.
