Hey everybody! how's it going? qanuippit?

I've been checking some previous posts... haven't really seen any regarding a
monopod & a 500mm
f/4.5 lens.

Sorry if this has been posted already... but I need some comments on a Pentax
Takumar 500mm f/4.5
and some solutions to hold it steady! :)

I'd love to do more bird/wildlife shooting... and I don't think I'll go for
sports photography,
but hiking with a "heavy" tripod might be tough...

Currently, I own an old & cheap tripod, and feels like it can't really hold a
big lens like this
one... I really don't believe I'll ever buy a 600mm or longer in the future...
so... what is it
like to use this 500mm with a monopod? (I've never used a monopod before...)

This lens is completely manual... so, realistically, the best way to do it
properly would it be
by investing some money on a sturdy tripod with Kimberley Sidekick solution?
(which I guess is
cheaper than the "full size" Kimberley and good enough for a 500mm)

Or would a monopod be steady enough? I understand some monopods could be used
as walking sticks as
well... so, that might be handy on a hike... ideas?

Thanks a bunch,
Ed
