When I was a lad (20) I lived on a ranch in the Matopos (Rhodesia). Once
in a while we went to the city and sometimes to the cinema before the
long drive back. I remember a film in which a man ran into a bog which
started to suck him under. The more he struggled the worse it got. He
was right up to his neck when a little boy, who was his enemy (I think
he might have been the boy's step-father or mother's boy friend) came
along and offered him the end of a branch -- after thinking about it for
a while. The victim grabbed hold and the little boy shouted "Pull Fred!"
Those two words became a family joke. Every time anything had to be
pulled (quite often) we would all shout "Pull Fred!" Needless to say the
boy and the man became fast friends.

The more you struggle the worse it gets. Just apologize and admit you
were talking rubbish and we'll all forgive you.
