Hi, Peter,

Every mid-August, the earth goes through some sort of dust cloud, so there
are meteor showers for a few nights. They are not too visible in cities due
to light pollution. This year, the best night was last Sunday, August 12,
between midnight and 4am ('cause that's when the sky is darkest). Some years
are better than others (depending on how deep into the cloud we go through).
Depending on how bad the light pollution is in your area, you can see several
dozen to hundreds of meteors.

NASA has a site that tells you all about it, but I'm pressed for time, so I
can't find the url right now.

regards,
frank
