This shot was taken on a Kenai Fjords glacier cruise last summer. It was a little gray and overcast at the time. The original exposure didn't thrill me like the image I saw through the viewfinder.
The dead tree stumps are the remains of trees that were living and then snapped off in the 1964 earthquake/tsunami that struck the region. It was a 9.2 magnitude quake. It caused widespread destruction of property but killed only 115 people in Alaska because of the low population density and because it occured at 5:36 in the afternoon on Good Friday. (I had a book about earthquakes when I was 8 or 9 and there were pictures of the damage done in this quake. It's always fascinated me for some reason). On this version I desaturated the color, applied a sepia filter to it, and adjusted the curves. I was hoping for an old postcard effect, which I think adds some mood. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4714423 Tom C. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
