A colleague of mine used to teach an environment subject in which, early in the term, he took them on a walk through the forest so that the students could appreciate its natural values. Towards the end of the walk he pointed out that they were actually in a managed plantation -- and therefore largely artificial -- forest. The fact that the students couldn't tell the difference (between "artificial" and "natural" forests) always caused some deep discussion.
