The FA was a rebadged first generation Tamron. Tamron has come out 
with several new generations since. I found the lens test from 
Popular Photography for the XR:

I had the FA version and came to love it for cycling and hiking. Then 
I dropped it and that was that. I'm still keeping an eye out for a 
used replacement, even though the FA 28-105 powerzoom I bought soon 
after gives better images.
