I was actually surprised. I did the "hold one camera up to each eye"
trick today and this is what I saw:

Left Eye: K100D w/Kit Lens
Right Eye: ist-DS w/Kit Lens and "katz-eye" viewfinder.

The left eye had a slightly smaller image - but it was BRIGHTER than
in my right eye. The image was also just a bit "cooler" - my DS w/
Katz-Eye had an almost brownish tinge to it in comparision.

Other differences - the 2.5" screen is nice, but the backlight is a
bit slow to respond. Seems like it takes a fraction of a second to
"ramp up" to full brightness when you're in review mode.

Speaking of preview... if you're in ZOOM mode at any stage, and you
hit the INFO button, it behaves differently. On the DS, the INFO
button toggles between "full info" mode, the mode with the histogram,
and the "fairly empty" screen where you can zoom. With the K100D, if
you are zoomed in at all and you hit the INFO button, all it does is
remove the arrows from the edges of the image. So it's not a quick
toggle OUT of zoom mode (which is pretty much what I use the info
button for when I'm zoomed in to 12x to check focus, for example).

The shutter is quieter. More like a "shclick" and less of a ker-
CLACK sound like the DS. (It actually sounds more like the Canon 300D)

Buffer is definitely smaller - rapid fire sequences slow down much
quicker than with the DS.

Focus seemed peppier. I had my own NiMH batteries in there to be
sure of that. It wasn't "night and day" quicker, but it seemed a bit
faster to get to the mark and a little more decisive.

The focus screen, for those Katz-Eye enthusiasts, does not appear to
be quite as easy to remove, but it looks "doable".

The SR appeared to do what it was supposed to do. I was surprised at
the sharpness of the 1/8 and 1/4 second exposures, even at 75mm zoom.

Electronic preview: Why? If you're going to take the picture to see
what it looks like, then just TAKE THE PICTURE and see what it looks
like! Silly feature. I was glad to see that this feature can be
turned off so the DOF preview button does what it ought to.

I had my own SD card in there so that I could take my images home and
look at them more closely. Should be/Could be interesting.

For those of you in Minnesota - this was at National Camera in Golden
Valley. While they show "body only" in their catalog at $620, they
only have the kits right now. I'm going to wait and see the "K10D"
or whatever it will be called before I make any sort of jump. At
this point, it is (as someone else mentioned) more of a "side-grade"
than UPgrade to go from the DS to the K100D. But it is still tempting.
