I am contemplating indulging myself in a fisheye lens.
I have the choice between the 16mm f/2.8 A and the 17mm f/4 SMC.
However, the 16mm A lens is going for almost twice the price of the 17mm.
(GBP 375 vs GBP 200)
Does anyone have any views on how the two lenses compare, and is the 16mm
worth the extra?

Hi, Peter.
I own the 17mm 4 SMC. It's a lovely lens, very well built, and gives
excellent results. I never used the 16 mm, but I suppose the extra
milimeter is not noticeable, being the major difference the extra stop and
the A setting.
You must decide if you need the extra stop and the A setting based in the
bodies you own and the situations you shoot. I use only the LX, so I don't
mind about the A, and f4 gives a good image in the LX finder. I usually use
it stopped down to f8 or f11, so I don't mind about an extra stop.
You can consider the Zenitar 16 2.8. It seems to be a good performer based
on the praises it receives in the list, and it's way cheapo on ebay.
Regards

Albano
