Actually, I found it amusing. It's always fun to be the center of
attention:-)
The most fun I had with spectators while shooting a commercial was in
San Francisco at city hall. We converted city hall into an opera
house and shot overnight. (City Hall looks a lot more like an opera
house than the nearby opera house.) Some of the commercial took place
on the front steps. Hundreds of people in formal dress descended the
stairs as the performance ended and got into their limos, which, of
course, included numerous Lincoln Town Cars. Apparently some
activists heard about the shoot and turned out in full force. Some of
us wore headphones so we could hear the director on the large set, so
it looked like we were recording sound. We weren't. But when the
director saw the hundreds of protesters lined up across the street,
he didn't want to disappoint them. So before he gave his "Roll film"
command, he did an extra loud "Roll Sound." That initiated a chant
from the protesters, who screamed at the top of their voices: "Less
money for cars! More money for AIDS!" Good times were had by all.
