The difference in transfer between 3 minutes and 1 minute (or whatever) is inconsequential and my six thumbs and fumble fingers have an easier time with the cable. I've never filled a card, so rarely have any reason to remove one. As for the drain on the batteries, it is easy enough to pop them out for a quick charge.
