I have two "point and shoots" (I really prefer the term 'fixed lens digital camera' to describe them) with 6+ Mpixel: the Konica Minolta A2 (8Mpixel) and the Sony DSC-R1 (10Mpixel). Both produce image quality on par with a DSLR, when exploited properly. They pose certain advantages over the DSLRs (less noise in operation, live view with histogram exposure analysis, 100% accurate framing, versatile EVF/LCD framing/focusing, etc etc) and certain disadvantages (the A2 lacks sensitivity for low light work and is only so-so on responsiveness, the R1 is better on sensitivity but poorer on responsiveness ... I use it primarily as a tripod camera). The interesting thing is that I can make 11x14 to 13x19 inch presentation prints from all of these cameras, and from my older 4 and 5Mpixel cameras. Aside from techno-weenies who'll examine an 11x14 inch print with a magnifying glass to complain about resolution, they all make excellent photographs for viewing in a normal manner. The only 'point and shoot' I'm interested in right now is due here tomorrow: a Fuji F30 compact, which looks to be a decent solution to a pocketable camera that returns good quality images at ISO 800. I hate the fact that it takes xD cards, but it otherwise seems like a serviceable little camera for JPEG capture when any of the others are too much to carry. I bet I can get some exhibition prints out of it too... :-) Godfrey -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
