(Be glad they didn't suspect kiddy porn... they'd a taken your computer for MONTHS.... minimum.) What I find suspicious.... "crying wolf" as it were abt the article is the simple fact that you're given a DIFFERENT IP-address every time you log on. The ISP always acts as a firewall..... so when someone "pings" that IP, they get an IP that's owned by the ISP. The ISP don't know which IP you're given at any moment... the ISP can't even find out while you're currently connected!! They simply know you did connect & at what speed. (Least that's how *MY* ISP operates). I won't touch on the ISP maintaining a log of where you go & what you did while you were there..... that's ANOTHER story. =) I don't know why the author is so shook.... their "adventure" has been SOP for DECADES!! DOH ....wake up. Ping yourself & see if you get a "static" IP. The ONLY time you're using the same IP address, ALL THE TIME, is if you're set up as a server, or have "cable". (As far as "I" know). YMMV Most folks can't handle switching their e-mail from html to text, let alone being set up as server. The bleeding heart liberals in an effort to protect you from yourself has deemed you can do NOTHING unless specificly granted written permission to do otherwise. Which they seldom do without consensus from a radical right that is so backwards, technology wise, that they also don't want you to do anything for fear of their not being able to understand it. You never know..... that TI-80 'puter may become sentient someday. =) Scoot - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
