Max, how about:

  1. dial exposure compensation (usually for flash it remains the same
     for several exposures, so you can skip this step)
  2. press green button to get a shutter speed (don't worry, with
     flash connected, it'll always be below 1/180)
  3. dial around previous shutter speed to cancel compensation and
     eventually add specific compensation for ambient light (for
     instance, for -1 flash compensation, dial shutter speed one stop
     slower, for +1 dial one stop faster).

  Maybe not as straightforward as with PZ-1p, but certainly much
  faster than MZ-5N and enough for me.
