On 22/8/06, Tom C, discombobulated, unleashed:

>I would expect them to start implementing anti-shake/image-stabilization in
>most if not all new model bodies, sell off the existing IS lens stock,
>replacing it with lenses using the same optical formula, without the IS.

Can't see that happening. In camera anti-shake provides (as I understand
it) the anti-shake method at image capture. Therefore, you don't see the
smoothing out of the image until reviewing the shot on the LCD on the
back. Image Stabilisation smoothes the image out as you actually look at
it through the lens. This would still be a major selling point to
professionals. Viz: a pap on the beach handholding a 400 2.8 trying to
get a decent shot of Catherine Z-J's mammaries will still want IS so he
can actually discern said mamms from different mamms standing alongside.
No use checking after the fact as the mamms may well have been whisked
out of range by then.

Not to mention other wildlife applications...
