I submitted a query through the Pentax UK site re AF540FGZ. I got an answer from what seems to be a centralised (European?) support team that's not encouraging at all:

I expressed my interest in buying one should it become available but left it open to buy it from abroad if they don't get their act together. Ffordes hardly stock new Pentax stuff they told me. It seems that the resurgence of Pentax in the US has not been followed by success in Europe and I can't blame the products for it.
