Contax won't be back as a brand any time soon. The name is still tied up by the contracts between Carl Zeiss and Kyocera. However, your friend can buy Carl Zeiss lenses for his D2x now. The 50/1.4 and 85/1.4 are available now, and more lenses will be announced this fall. These lenses are also available in M-42 screw mount, and can be used on many cameras via adapters. There are rumors that the Contax 645 will be revived by a new manufacturer, but so far there are only rumors and no solid info. Maybe we will hear something concrete at photokina this year.
