Hello Bill, Welcome back to the list. Glad to hear you've recovered from your recent illness! I tried a Tamron 28-300 when I first bought the *ist DS. It performed better than my expectations, but for my uses I found it to be a bit too bulky and a bit too slow to keep. The focal length range was a little too biased to the long end for me as well.
