Isn't that what high speed sync is for?  Obviously, you have to have
the proper flash gun.

The *ist has this, too.  I've never bothered to get a cable or remote
for it.  Have you ever noticed vibration being a problem with the 2
second pre-fire?  I can't imagine there's much, if any, vibration
after the camera's had a couple seconds to settle when mounted on a
decent tripod.

I have one on the MX.  I use the pocket for the viewfinder cap.  Very
handy.  Since obtaining the strap (thanks to Charles Braswell!) I
haven't lost a single viewfinder cap.
