I'll be quite happy to deal with a custom form factor rechargeable Li- Ion battery if it provides anything like the performance I get from similar batteries in the Fuji F30 (I've charged it once since I bought the camera and have taken over 700 photos with it), the Sony R1 (I've charged the battery three times in six months, 1900 exposures to date), or the Konica Minolta A2 (charged it the last time somewhere around November of 2005, haven't shot many pictures but it's still going strong) or Epson P2000 (charged it in January, showed slide shows for five months, charged it again in June, still going ...). Lithium disposables in the *ist DS last very well too, of course, but I dislike that they're disposables. NiMH do not hold a charge anywhere near as well as Li-Ions and are much heavier.
