I purchased the Komine VS1 70-210 after finding Mark's page and
others. I ebayed it, but on e-bay they have:
- Become hard to find
- Become fairly expensive when they are auctioned.

Due to the success of the *ist-D* cameras, the price of these used
lenses has gone up a lot in the past year or two.

Anyway, it's my primary lens for that focal range. Very sharp,
especially stopped down a bit, but not bad wide-open either. The 'A'
setting makes it work well as you know. My only complaint is that it
tends to lose contrast very easily in flare-prone lighting. It doesn't
"bloom" too much flare-wise, but the contrast drops quickly if there's
bright stuff in the scene. It shapes up a bit more by f/8 in those
situations.

That said, in backlit/diffuse conditions, it's very nice, sharp,
and has good contrast.

Although I've not used the SMC 70-210, I'd imaging that the SMC
coating would help the flare situation. If you're looking for a good
deal, you may have to find a non-A lense (like the SMC Pentax-M
70-210).... they go for cheaper since they're more of a pain to use on the
crippled-mount digital bodies.
