Check the wattage requirement for your charger. Buy a 12V inverter  
that can handle about 20% more than that. For most battery chargers,  
this means around about US$20. A spare third party charger is  
typically another US$20.

Unfortunate.

Despite being carried in a rucksack through airports and cross  
country, or strapped to the back of a motorcycle for thousands of  
miles, I never had a camera pack up on me, ever.

Where I normally travel, shipping is easy. 24-48 hour service from  
home to there. I've done it several times, and it isn't really very  
expensive either. I always have power available where I sleep; I  
don't camp.
