A good friend of mine, and an excellent photographer, is just now
considering a DSLR after some years of working with an Olympus C5060
Wide Zoom. What I find sad is that even though the Pentax K100D meets
or exceeds all of his expressed desires for resolution, size, weight,
lens quality and focal length ranges, he refuses to even consider a
Pentax of any kind. It's going to be Canon, Nikon or Olympus ... or
nothing. I don't know why, but there you have it.

On the other hand, Felipe and I had a houseguest this weekend (she
flew up from Tijuana specifically to attend my closing party! :-) and
we decided to take her to Alcatraz for an outing on Sunday. Waiting
in line for the boat the first three other people I saw with anything
other than a point and shoot were carrying Pentax *ist DL, *ist DS
and K100D cameras. The DS user seemed to be the most camera savvy of
the three, the other two were definitely new "point and shoot
upgraders" based on how they were using their cameras.

I had the DS+20-35+77 with me; it proved quite a nice pairing of
lenses for this outing, although I'd have liked my tripod and DA14 as
well.
