Although it's often lambasted for being terrible, the Pentax
F100-300/4.5-5.6 that I bought for $85 in EXC condition performs very
nicely when stopped down 2-3 stops. I rarely use such long lenses
without a tripod and at lens openings much larger than f/11 anyway.

   Pentax *ist DS + F100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 + 2x-S Teleconverter
   ISO 200 @ f/13 @ 1/160 sec, EV +0.3, Av mode (f=600mm)

This lens suffices for my needs given the small amount that I use
longer than 135mm. I'd be willing to sell it for what I paid to
interested parties.
