Wireless flash using RRTF was present on cheap cameras like MZ-6 and *ist and it is only a matter of software, not hardware so no production costs are added. I can understand that they omitted this functionality in Ds/Dl as they were low end cameras, but why in the flagship??? I would prefere this instead of direct slow sync and second curtain sync that they added in K10D...
