I find it quite interesting reading how people in one country or another
feel that their retailers are ripping them off compared to those somewhere
else

My wife and I used to own a combination art gallery and nature store in
which we sold Pentax binoculars. We were able to buy Pentax cameras and
lenses but not resale them due to a photo store near by and that was fine as
we patronized that place anyways. We could not however buy cameras or lenses
for much less than the US mail order places sold them for once exchange
rates were calcualted. Binocluars however we, a little store, was selling
for up to 20% less than those same mail order dealers. Was told by Pentax
rep that the company sets the wholesale price for each country separately
and then there are different duties as well. A non Pentax example was Saabs
were selling in Canada for thousands less than in the States and Americans
were coming up to buy them new so save money. It isn't always the dealer or
the company or the country but usually it is one or more of the three that
makes the decision and of course the price is reflected at the sales counter
so it is the dealer that is the one ripping off the consumer.Plus there is
more to it than how much you pay to decide the selling price.

As far as selling and buying goes for all those who wish to buy the new K10D
they can now thank me. As I am not going to buy one anytime soon I will not
be creating a shortage for those who need one now. Sounds like a great
camera but until do not have access to the D200 anymore there is little
reason to purchase one now. By the way it took 10 days total from the time I
put the request for buying one on my supervisor's desk to the day it sat on
my desk but this was in July and if I ordered one last fall I would have
waited for months. Guess the companies could just postpone releasing the
cameras until the stock was large enough that there was no waiting period.
Pentax could wait until January to release enough units that everyone could
get them when they want them. That makes no business sense to me as what
about the loss of money and loss of buzz?

Perhaps I will keep my eyes out for a used DS/DS2 cheap to buy for now. I am
extremely glad that the K10D is being released and hope it is a great
camera. Most likely will eventually own either it or its sucessor.
