I agree ... I used John's sample of the lens when I got my first DS. Based on it being a "kit lens" and the light weight construction - having only used manual focus K-mount and earlier lenses previously - I was expecting the worst. However, I was quite pleased with the results considering everything. Quick focus, good close-up shots ... I'd recommend it unequivocally as a good walking around lens, great for family snaps and portraits, and for someone on a budget or just getting started with digital. You can do a lot worse, that's for sure.
