Walt, The company they have handling the rebates is full of bozos. The same thing happened to me when I put in a rebate request for my 16-45. I sent a strongly worded email, and a couple of weeks later got an email saying that my rebate was being processed. The check arrived about two months after the purchase.
Wouldn't hurt to let Pentax know of your dissatisfaction with their contractor, though.
