I agree with Shel. If you're paying for this class you could probably do with a more current version of PS - unless you're totally new to PS.
Also if the teacher is a graphic artist/designer & not a photographer, you'll get a totally different view of PS. I say this from experience after attending a couple of PS classes being taught by a non photographer. I don't think you need to do anything to inform your instructor about Pentax except show him some images taken with a Pentax.
