The R1 gives up approximately 1 stop on noise compared to the Pentax *ist DS. This is fine by me as I so rarely use greater than ISO 400-800 anyway, less noise would always be a plus. Using the imager chip to drive the viewfinder has both advantages and disadvantages, like everything else.
