Thanks ... I heard the show and that's how I found out about his death. I have all of his CD's.
I met him before he recorded his first CD ... he wasn't very well known outside of Texas then. I was driving through Texas, and got to San Antonio one night, was hungry, and looking for some 'que. Came upon a little joint - and I mean little - ordered, and discovered that there were no tables available. I asked this guy if I could share a table - we started talking about bbq, my trip, interesting places in Texas, and before long he had to excuse himself. A few minutes later he started playing. I didn't leave the place until long after closing, had a chance to schmooze a little more with Don and a few other people who were there. A couple of years later he released Rolling Stone From Texas. My music dealer suggested I buy the CD, which I'd not known about, and I just about wet my pants. I was really saddened to learn of his death. The man not only knew is music and his craft well, but he recommended a few good bbq joints also, which made my time in Texas much more enjoyable. I'm gonna make me some ribs and break out a bottle of my Badlands BBQ sauce, and have a little dinner next week to pay my respects.
