Both widely criticized and widely defended, it seems. My reservations about this lens is that in the DSLR community there have been very polarized testimonials about its performance. Some love it and find little issue with wide open sharpness or CA. Others find that they need to stop it down quite a ways for sharpness and spend a lot of time correcting the CA issues.
I suspect there's a lot of individual lens variation, as well as individual variation in what the users expect from a premium priced lens like this.
