I was a freelancer at the company I now work for. That lasted 18 months. Unfortunately, they eventually made me come on staff. I made a lot more as a freelancer, because they had to meet my rate. Fortunately, I still have time to do other freelance on the side while I'm at work, so I can make up some of the difference.
