Apart from the RAM (I recently upgraded my notebook from 512MB to the 1GB
maximum for this model) I don't see anything to prevent it being useful
for at least five (and more likely ten) years.  We're well past the days
when last year's machine was only useful as a doorstop - in fact both my
notebook and our main home machine are over three years old, and are still
perfectly usable (even with 'only' a 400MHz DDR memory subsystem).
Only one internal hardrive isn't really much of an issue, either - for
all but the most demanding tasks external USB2 or firewire drives are fine.
