Ann:

Good choice on the DELL. I've used Dell for several business clients,
they all seem to be happy with them.

I too, use AVG and LOVE it. I put it on client PCs, use it on all 3 of
my workstations (Win 98SE, NT 4.0 and Win2000) as well as my Win2000
server and my Linux server. I have never had anything get through
(feverishly looking for wood to knock on). I think that as part of the
installation process on the Dell, you have the option of installing
Norton Anti-Virus. I wouldn't do it, I would get AVG from the link below.

Someone else in this thread mentioned a firewall. I have always used the
Linksys Firewall/Switch. The firewall is a BIG part of your security,
the Switch would allow you to connect the 2 computers (if you have an
ethernet port in the old computer - $10.00-$15.00) and share Internet,
Printers, Scanner, etc. Some people swear by the software firewall,
Iswear by the hardware. I do so because a software firewall is
suceptible to the same issues as other software (crashes, being unloaded
behind the scenes, not being loaded at startup, being hacked
(IMO)...etc...). See the link below.

Let me know if you need the Win98SE disk...

Have fun,
Mitch
